Ahwatukee Foothills Soccer Club
The Ahwatukee Foothills Soccer Club started in 1999 when 20 recreational teams left the Ahwatukee YMCA to form what has become the Valley’s largest parent-run club. The club has a decentralized structure that allows each individual team to determine its own competitiveness and cost structure. This helps keep the cost of playing competitive soccer reasonable. Each age group has a charter holder, a player’s parent who is responsible for setting the direction for those teams. The key responsibilities include:
- Setting team direction – competitive vs. recreational
- Determining if the team wants to pay for professional coaches
- Working with the coaching director to hire a coach/trainer who best fits the team’s goals
- Setting up a team organizational structure, such as parent volunteer duties
