VNSA is proud to make used books available to the general public at very reasonable prices while raising significant amounts of money for charities in Maricopa County. Last year's sale offered more than 600,000 books, DVDs, CDs, audio and video tapes, jigsaw puzzles, maps, and other book-related items. The sale attracted more than 20,000 shoppers and enabled VNSA to donate more than $340,000.

To Donate: Books can be donated to VNSA by scheduling a pickup, or by using a Drop Box.

Big thanks to my friend Amy for sharing this terrific weekend outing!

It’s hard not to notice the aroma of mesquite barbecued beef. That’s when the Café holds its “Hogs 'N Heat” ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT dinner of BBQ Beef, Chicken and Pork, Rocky Mountain Oysters and “Not Quite Cowboy” Beans. Diners are treated to live music, dancing, and activities for children (face painting, balloon toss, water slides, and more).

But great barbecue isn't the only reason folks stop by. You'll also find a relaxed atmosphere and a warm smile every time you come in. It's a great place to relax, meet friends, dance or just have a refreshing drink when traveling through.

Hogs 'N Heat will be year-round January thru December on the first Saturday of each month, generally from 1pm-11pm on the Rock Springs Garden Patio. Summer hours of operation may change so call ahead.

Visit a local Starbucks on Friday, February 5th and receive a FREE Kind Snack Bar.

Starbucks will hand out free samples of KIND snack bars on Friday, Feb. 5. The bars are "made from ingredients you can see and pronounce," according to the manufacturer — things like whole nuts, fruit and honey. Movie Matinee- Disney's "A Bugs Life" movie with a live presentation on desert bugs!

Desert Outdoor Center

Got bugs? On Saturday February 6, 2010, The Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant will be hosting a special "Desert Bugs" presentation followed by a showing of Disney's popular animated movie, "A Bug's Life" (95 minutes). This family event is designed for all ages. The interpretive program is lead by professional Interpretive Park Rangers and will explore the various & fascinating creatures which inhabit our local Sonoran desert landscape. From the good, the bad, and the ugly, these creepy crawlies will be on display. Get up close and personal with insects, arachnids, centipedes and more, with live exhibits and high powered microscopes. The program will by followed by a kid-friendly, G-rated movie presentation, "A Bug's Life", depicting the world from the perspective of bugs.

Park Walk Bingo For Kids-Estrella

This is a fun way to get the kids out in nature. We’ll stroll through the park, mark off your bingo card when you see one of the things on the card. Whoever gets the most sightings in a one hour time span will win a “gold” (chocolate) coin. Follow signs to program under the shade trees in the Navy area. Bring a picnic to the Superplayground for later.
